THe Final Solution
The systematic, planned mass murder of the Jews of Europe
In 1941 the Nazis made a decision to murder every Jewish man, woman and child in Europe. Murder on such a vast scale needed more efficient and impersonal methods of killing than murder by killing squads.
Special death camps with poison gas facilities were constructed.
By early 1942 six ‘death camps’; Auschwitz-Birkenau, Belzec, Chelmno, Majdanek, Sobibor and Treblinka were operating as killing centres. The ‘Final Solution’ required Jews all over Nazi occupied Europe to be deported by rail to these SS-operated death camps in Poland.
