DESCRIPTION:This talk looks at the origins of the Yiddish language. It goes on to look at the developments in the Germanic lands\, the rise of the major East European dialects and the rise of modern Yiddish literature. \n\nDovid Katz\, a Vilnius-based Yiddish and Holocaust scholar\, has taught at Oxford\, Yale and Vilnius universities.
