SUMMARY:Webinar: Romania and the Holocaust by Natasha Skoryk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Live Online Webinar by CTHGC Educator Natasha Skoryk on “Romania and the Holocaust: Forgotten Perpetrators” using the following link: https://zoom.us/j/509586496. The webinar will also be broadcast live on our Facebook page. \nOver 300 000 Jews had called the area between the Dniester and the Bug Rivers home before the outbreak of war. While many were evacuated\, most perished. The camps at which they died – Bogdanovka\, Golta\, Domanevka and others – have faded into obscurity. These camps were not staffed by German soldiers. This talk seeks to tell some of the victims’ stories and address the Romanian perpetrators’ role in the Holocaust. \nNatasha Skoryk’s grandfather and great-grandparents were amongst the Jewish evacuees from Transnistria. She is a full-time educator at the Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre\, as well as a writer and journalist.

He is the editing director of fiction at the publishing house Mondadori; before which he was\, for more than twenty years\, literary director at Feltrinelli Editions. SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening: Objects from the concentration camps
DESCRIPTION:Objects from the Concentration Camps:\nA Photographic Exhibition by Richard Wiesel \nThe exhibition examines the personal objects left behind by Holocaust victims in the concentration camps of Ravensbrück and Sachsenhausen\, Germany. Dr. Robert Sommer researched each artefact back to its original owner enabling viewers to connect with the victims’ stories.\nSelected from the closed archives of the two memorial sites\, this stark and poignant imagery and text shares both stories of horror and hope during the years of the camps’ existence. \nThe keynote address will be given by Andrew Lamprecht\nAndrew Lamprecht currently works at the Michaelis School of Fine Art\, University of Cape Town. Andrew does research in Curatorship\, Contemporary African Aesthetics and History of Art.
