Seeking Refuge: German Jewish immigration to the Cape in the 1930s

The Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre will be staging an exhibition entitled Seeking Refuge: German-Jewish immigration to South Africa in the 1930s” from the 15th of December 2020 until the 22nd of January 2021. The exhibition provides an overview of the history and life of Jews in Germany, including their search for refuge from Nazi tyranny.  The exhibition provides a very personal context, through the use of some 40 narratives from individuals and families, who made Cape Town their home and their struggle to rebuild. Photographs, letters, documents as well as original artefacts will be on display to provide a telling and visual background of these moving histories of relocation. The exhibition shines a light on the plight of refugees and stateless people who like the German Jews flee to our country today seeking refuge and the challenges they face, trying to rebuild their lives.
