As a matter of long-standing policy, the CTHGC does not issue public statements in response to ongoing conflicts, no matter how grave. This includes, among others, the wars in Ukraine, in Central and East Africa, and in Gaza. In each of these cases, the term genocide has been applied by various actors. No matter whether these are ultimately adjudged to be genocides, we are profoundly concerned about the suffering and loss of civilian life.

The absence of an official statement by the Centre does not reflect a lack of concern, but rather reflects a deliberate and principled commitment to our core mission: education. Our exhibitions and programmes are designed to address the root causes of hatred, to warn of the dangers of extremism, and to recognise our common humanity.

Sweet Home Sweet: A Story of Survival, Memory, and Returns

The Sweet Home Sweet exhibition will be on display at the Centre until January 2026. The exhibition offers a story of how one family formed their own vibrant connections to the country of their roots, while still living with the pain and trauma of the Holocaust, and is raising challenging questions about the relationship between ethnic Poles and Jewish survivors and their families, with the goal of understanding this relationship today.

Layers of Memory: 2026 Study Tour in Poland

In 2025, the Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre led its first study tour to Poland, visiting major and lesser-known sites of Jewish life, and meeting people working to preserve Jewish memory today.

We invite you to join us in July 2026. The itinerary will feature new sites, voices, and perspectives. An optional extension to Lithuania will include Vilnius, the “Jerusalem of the North,” and the Lost Shtetl Museum.
