Over 300 000 Jews had called the area between the Dniester and the Bug Rivers home before the outbreak of war. While many were evacuated, most perished. The camps at which they died – Bogdanovka, Golta, Domanevka and others – have faded into obscurity. These camps were not staffed by German soldiers. This talk seeks to tell some of the victims’ stories and address the Romanian perpetrators’ role in the Holocaust.
Natasha Skoryk’s grandfather and great-grandparents were amongst the Jewish evacuees from Transnistria. She is a full-time educator at the Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre, as well as a writer and journalist.
