This piece intended to honour the memory of all the Rhodes Island Jews that died during the Holocaust. I chose to create an artwork that portrays the Jews that lived in Rhodes Island as well as the connection that they had to Judaism during the Holocaust. Therefore the artwork includes one of the most famous synagogues in Rhodes, with a poem written on top of it. The poem was written by a man whose parents were holocaust survivors that lived in Rhodes Island. The poem talks about the atmosphere in the synagogue and the man’s joyful experience when going to one. By creating this artwork, I have tried to have a direct link between the holocaust and the Jews in Rhodes Island.
