Prof. Dienke Hondius will present her “Mapping Hiding Places” project, focusing on hiding in the Netherlands, including the 27 hiding places of the family in Invisible Years. Prof. Kiene Brillenburg Wurth will focus on one hiding place — the Breeplein Church in Rotterdam — where her grandparents risked their lives to hide two Jewish families, including the grandparents of Daphne Geismar and Sharon Strauss. Brillenburg Wurth will retrace the stories from the perspective of the protectors and from the onderduikers’ (people in hiding) accounts in Invisible Years.
This program is in partnership with the South African Holocaust and Genocide Foundation, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Rabin Chair Forum, and Classrooms Without Borders.
