“The Hunio Family”
This piece is based on a portrait photograph of the Hunio family of Rhodes taken in 1911. While visiting the Sephardi Shul and hearing the stories of the Jews of Rhodes, I was inspired to create a work that focused on family and culture. The goal of this piece was to capture the vibrance of Jewish life on Rhodes while reflecting on the nature of its abrupt and tragic end during WWII. Abstraction and bright colours create a sense of vague, faded memories.
