“Selfless Resilience”

This artwork focuses on women during the Holocaust. During this present time in society, I find it very important to acknowledge the strong women of the past as well as to encourage future women.

I painted two portraits, Irena Sender, a woman who saved the lives of many children and Friedl Dicker-Brandeis, who taught children art therapy in the Theresienstadt Ghetto. The collage of drawings include drawings done by children during the Holocaust. The names are of children who died in the Holocaust, they are in white symbolizing the purity and innocence that was taken away, contrasting against the background representing the difficulties endured. I created this artwork in remembrance of these women and children and to acknowledge their roles in resisting injustice.
