Asher Varon was born in Rhodes Island in 1928. He was transported to Auschwitz by the Nazis and from there, to forced labour in the Charlottengrube coal mines, and then to Mauthausen. He was liberated near near Linz in May 1945. He moved to Rhodesia and then came to South Africa in 1971. He passed away in 2000 and is dearly missed by the Cape Town Jewish Community.
